Before I had Coen I knew I wanted to try breastfeeding, but was terrified of how hard it would be after hearing only negatives stories about nursing. I anticipated failing before I had even started and hoped I would maybe make it to 6 months of feeding. We are now 17 months into our journey and I realise now that I ham mothering through breastfeeding, and that this has played such a big part in the formation of our shared bond and secure attachment. For us, breastfeeding has been so easy and enjoyable and I feel so blessed to have had this experience. Early on, I almost fell into the trap of stretching out and cutting back feeds and I am so glad I went with my instincts and ignored this advice. I hope all mothers have the knowledge and confidence to breastfeed as long as they and their baby would like to and that projects like this continue to normalise breastfeeding and provide information and support to families.
